Riccardo Schirru is an Australian journalist born in Rome, Italy who has had extensive
experience working with the Italian community in both in radio, print media and television.
He has worked at SBS, Radio 3AK, 3BM and Rete Italia. Riccardo is currently a Senior Journalist at Il Globo Italian newspaper, located in Carlton Melbourne. He also coordinates a weekly culinary radio and TV program called ‘Sapori’ broadcasting on the IlGlobo TV app.
Riccardo is passionate about all things Italian. He travels to Italy on a regular basis and has lived in various regions in Italy.
Riccardo has a vast understanding and appreciation for Italian food, history and culture and loves sharing his knowledge & experience with other Australian’s.
Travelling together with Riccardo and Sandy Colombo Aussie2Italia this program is for people who want to understand the way in which Italians love their food and wine – It is a small tour, fully guided and we will visit special places off the well worn tourist track.
Starting in Rome and ending in Verona we will visit Cinque Terre, Tuscany with a Villa stay and includes the food highlight of the middle part of the tour based in Bologna. This will include rustic adventures including regional food and wine visits and a cooking class This is a tour for people who love food, want to explore a more rustic and intimate trip with Australian’s who love to share their love of Italy in a true Italian style.

- A single supplement is available, with the cost depending on room type and availability at the time of booking, ranging approximately from €950 to €1150 (final cost to be confirmed upon booking).
- VIP Rate: guaranteed upgrade of all your hotel rooms on this tour from standard rooms - additional €990 per room. Please note: room upgrades are different at each hotel.
- This is a high-activity tour, requiring participants to be fit and active. It is not suitable for those with health concerns or difficulties walking long distances. Passengers who do not meet the health and fitness requirements may be asked to leave the tour at their own expense.

Hello Rome – Wednesday, 16 September 2026 (D)
Welcome to Rome! Upon arrival, check into your hotel and start exploring the Eternal City. You might visit the Colosseum, an ancient amphitheatre with a rich history, and the nearby Roman Forum, which was once the centre of ancient Roman public life.
Tonight is our welcome dinner hosted by Riccardo – we will spend the evening enjoying dinner at a local Roman restaurant.

Rome to Cinque Terre – Thursday, 17 September 2026
After enjoying your Italian style breakfast on the terrace, you will have the morning free to continue your exploration of Rome: You may visit such places as the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel and Raphael Rooms, and St. Peter’s Basilica, where you can marvel at Michelangelo’s Pietà and the grand dome.
Late morning return to the hotel to collect luggage so we can take our afternoon train to Cinque Terre for next 3 nights. Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbors are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas.
This evening is free for you to enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Cinque Terre - Friday, 18 September 2026 (B)
After your Italian style breakfast it will be our final full day in Rome. Depending on booking allocation time this morning we will tour the Vatican Museum and Sistine chapel (entry included), which are an absolute must in Rome.
Later today take the opportunity to explore more of Rome or revisit some of the sites you didn’t get time to really explore. Visit the Spanish Steps, relax at the famous staircase, or enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Villa Borghese park, which features museums and gardens.
In the afternoon, you’ll have free time for shopping or last-minute sightseeing.
In the evening, ask us for a recommendation for a local Roman restaurant (own expense).

Cinque Terre - Saturday, 19 September 2026 (B)
After your Italian style breakfast on the Terrace, you have time this morning for last minute shopping or sight seeing. We check out of our hotel and we walk to the train station for our fast, late morning train to Florence. At the train station there are plenty of food options which you can purchase and take on the train for your lunch (own expense).
On arrival into Florence we check in to our hotel and you have the afternoon free to explore. You might start with a visit to the Florence Cathedral (Duomo), where you can marvel at the stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi. Explore Piazza della Signoria, home to the Palazzo Vecchio and a replica of Michelangelo’s David. Enjoy the evening discovering Florence at your own pace.
Tonight for those interested we will meet in the lobby and walk to the wonderful Florence Mercato Centrale to have a drink and maybe a meal – this is a real cultural and enjoyable experience (meal & drink at own cost) Something that is a must in Florence.

Cinque Terre to Tuscan Villa via Lucca - Sunday, 20 September 2026 (B)
After our Italian style breakfast, its time to checkout and take our private transfer to the Tuscan Villa via Lucca. Lucca is a city on the Serchio river in Italy’s Tuscany region. It’s known for the well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city centre and its cobblestone streets.
Broad, tree-lined pathways along the tops of these massive 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for strolling and cycling. Casa di Puccini, where the great opera composer was born, is now a house museum. We will have time for lunch here before we head towards the Tuscan Villa for the next 2 nights.
Dinner tonight is included with a glass of wine at our Tuscan Villa – weather permitting we will eat outside Italian style under the Vines looking out at the rolling Tuscan countryside

Tuscan Villa – pasta making – Monday, 21 September 2026 (B L D)
After our Italian style breakfast we will walk to the train station for our day trip to Pisa. On arrival at Pisa we will walk (around 25-30 minutes) to visit the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Along with the tower, you can visit the nearby Cathedral and Baptistery. You must get your photo here !
There is time to explore and have lunch also. After exploring Pisa, we will return to the train station on foot (a 25-30 min walk) and return to Florence by train around mid - late afternoon.
Tonight enjoy a relaxing evening and have dinner at your leisure (own expense). Ask us for a local restaurant recommendation.

Tuscan Villa to Bologna via Ravenna - Tuesday, 22 September 2026 (B)
After our Italian style breakfast, we will check out of the Villa and head towards Bologna via Ravenna.
Ravenna is a city in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It's known for the colourful mosaics adorning many of its central buildings, like the octagonal Basilica di San Vitale, the 6th-century Basilica di Sant Apollinare Nuovo and the cross-shaped Mausoleo di Galla Placidia. North of the center, the Mausoleo di Teodorico built in the 6th century for King Theodoric the Great, is a Gothic, circular stone tomb with a monolithic dome.
After our tour of Ravenna we head towards Bologna where we will stay for the next 3 nights

Bologna – Wednesday, 23 September 2026 (B)
This morning enjoy an Italian breakfast while taking in the scenery of the rolling hills of Tuscany.
After breakfast you might like to relax by the pool, go for a swim or take a walk. Lunch today is included.
People often ask why is Tuscany so famous? It is in central Italy and is home to dramatic landscapes, and the historic cities of Florence and Siena. It's a place of art, of delicious local dishes, Chianti wines and hilltop towns that overlook breathtaking and verdant valleys. Today you will enjoy the Villa and the view
People often under estimate the importance of food to the italian way of life - even if you’re not a budding chef learning the art of pasta making is fascinating - most Italians eat pasta everyday !
After lunch we have a cooking class at the Villa and learn how to make pasta.
Tonight’s dinner is included with a glass of wine.

Bologna Parma & Modena - Thursday, 24 September 2026 (B L)
After our Italian style breakfast we will board our private transfer and travel to Modena & Parma - There are many things to do and see in both towns but just as many to taste and eat!
Modena is a city in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. It’s known for its balsamic vinegar and opera heritage, plus Ferrari and Lamborghini sports cars. The Enzo Ferrari Museum has exhibits on the life and work of the car designer, in his childhood home, plus iconic models in a futuristic building. In the 18th-century Museum Palace is the Estense Gallery, with works by Tintoretto and Correggio, plus a bust by Bernini.
Lunch today is included and we will be eating and tasting local produce Parma is a university city in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, famed for Parmesan cheese and Parma ham. Romanesque buildings, including the frescoed Parma Cathedral and the pink marble Baptistery, grace the city centre. Classical concerts take place at the Teatro Regio, a 19th-century opera house. The Galleria Nazionale, inside the imposing Palazzo della Pilotta, displays works by painters Correggio and Canaletto.
After all of our exploring we will return to Bologna for the night – dinner

Bologna to Verona Friday 25 September (B)
This morning after breakfast we will checkout of the hotel and take our private transfer to the train station to head to Verona.
Verona is a city in northern Italy’s Veneto region, with a medieval old town built between the meandering Adige River. It’s famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet." A 14th-century residence with a tiny balcony overlooking a courtyard is said be “Juliet’s House"
The Verona Arena is a huge 1st-century Roman amphitheater, which currently hosts concerts and large-scale opera performances.

Verona Saturday 26 September 2026 (B,D)
After our Italian Style breakfast we will board our coach and travel to Modena & Parma.
The traditional homeland of Balsamic Vinegar Modena is an amazing town to visit – there are many things do and see in this vibrant town. Piazza Grande (Unesco World Heritage) with the Palazzo Comunale, the Duomo, and the Ghirlandina Tower, the Enzo Ferrari Museum.
We reboard the coach and head to Parma designated UNESCO’s city of gastronomy. Parma is a university city in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, famed for Parmesan cheese and Parma ham. Picturesque university
town with a lot to see: Cathedral and Baptistry of Parma, Romanesque style with frescoes by painter Correggio, the Neoclassical Theatre Regio, opened by famous Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini, in 1829.
Lunch today will be included and we will be tasting the local produce.
This afternoon there will be time to explore the town before we board our coach and head backto Bologna for our last night
